The Unknown Customer – Content is King

Most of us are familiar with search engines – you’ve seen them – Google, Yahoo, msn.com. Ever wonder how they come up with the list they do with millions of websites out there?

One large influence is the amount of relevant content. By tracking the number of times words are used on your website and in what position – titles and headers being the most important, opening pages the second most important and everything else adding up – search engines determine your “importance.” The more times these specific words, called keywords, are used on your website, the more important your website seems. And therefore, the more likely you are to appear in that gem – the top 10 list – the first search page results!

Sounds easy? Apparently it’s not. One reason is that many business owners fail to produce quality web content. Why? There are many reasons businesses do not, or cannot, produce quality web content. Time issues, language barriers, or simply, many don’t realize the importance of producing web content.

How important is it? Well, a store owner wouldn’t open a store and not put out a sign. Why publish a web site and not allow people to find it. Plus, people get to write about their favorite thing – themselves!

What to write? There are so many things to write about business, especially your business. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • You! How did you begin this crazy business?
  • Maintenance and care of the product.
  • Quality and production assurance.
  • Production information – where, how and who produces the product?
  • History of product – evolution of yours specifically, or of the industry.
  • How do you differ from others in your field?
  • Industry trends
  • Industry news
